Premium Wool Felt Etching Blankets for Every Press

Achieve professional-grade results with Takach Press Felt Etching Blankets. Whether you are an experienced intaglio artist or just starting your printmaking journey, the quality of your blankets is just as critical as the pressure of your press. Our blankets are crafted from 100% wool to provide the resilience, durability, and compression needed for flawless ink transfer and deep embossment.

Choosing the Right Blanket Set

A standard etching setup typically requires a set of three blankets, each serving a unique purpose:

  • Sizing Catcher (1/16"): The first layer. Placed directly against the damp paper to absorb excess sizing and moisture, protecting your thicker blankets. Available in both pressed and woven (Swanskin) options.

  • Cushion Blanket (1/4"): The middle layer. Provides the "give" needed to push the paper into the etched lines of the plate.

  • Pusher Blanket (1/8"): The top layer. Made of durable woven wool to withstand the abrasive action of the upper roller.

Why Choose Takach Press Blankets?

  • 100% Pure Wool: Unlike synthetic blends, our wool felts maintain their thickness and spring over years of heavy use.

  • Custom Sizes: From 18" x 36" to 47" x 96", we stock blankets for every press bed size.

  • Precision Engineering: Designed to complement the world-class accuracy of Takach Etching Presses.

Q: How do I arrange my etching blankets? A: Start with the Sizing Catcher closest to the paper, followed by the Cushion Blanket, and finish with the Pusher Blanket on top, touching the roller.

Q: Can I wash my sizing catcher? A: Yes. Because the sizing catcher absorbs moisture and ink, it can be gently hand-washed in cool water with a mild wool detergent like Woolite and air-dried flat.

Q: What is the difference between a 3-blanket and 4-blanket set? A: A 4-blanket set includes an extra sizing catcher. This allows you to continue printing while one catcher is being washed and dried.
