Description

Join Richard Peterson and Alois Senefelder as Richard takes us through many of the tips and tricks he has learned in his 50 years of printing and teaching Lithography.

Introduction-
Lithography is one of those mediums that is difficult to master. Even though I have my own lithography studio and I have studied lithography for 50 years, I still have so much more to learn. I don't even think another 50 years would be enough time for me to understand it fully.

From the moment I walked into the basement litho shop at the Kansas City Art Institute and smelled the mixture of limestone and lithotine, I knew that this would be my life's work. From the time I made my 1st litho at KCAI, which I still consider my best print (beginner's luck), I fell in love with the entire process, even the gaining.

When I travel and do workshops or I am lucky enough to be a visiting artist at different universities, when I walk into the litho shop I feel at home. It Doesn't matter if it's California, Paris, Mexico, or Omaha Nebraska, I feel like I belong there. The equipment, the materials, the smell of lithotine helps calm me down and I feel protected and at ease with my surroundings. Lithography has been the love of my life and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
